Caves of the Alb-Donau-Kreis
In the Swabian Alb, probably the richest cave area in Germany, there are about 2,500 known caves. The Alb-Donau-Kreis, which belongs to the GeoPark Swabian Alb, is a district with some of the most beautiful and interesting caves.

Auf der Schwäbischen Alb, dem wohl höhlenreichsten Gebiet Deutschlands, gibt es etwa 2.500 bekannte Höhlen. Einige der schönsten und interessantesten Höhlen befinden sich in der Landschaft des Alb-Donau-Kreises, der zum GeoPark Schwäbische Alb gehört.
Tiefenhöhle Laichingen
Tiefenhöhle Laichingen is the deepest accessible show cave in Germany. Through massive shafts and large halls, down steep stairs, it sometimes extends to a depth of 55 meters.

Die Tiefenhöhle Laichingen ist die tiefste begehbare Schauhöhle Deutschlands. Durch gewaltige Schächte und große Hallen geht es auf teilweise steilen Treppen bis in eine Tiefe von 55 Meter.
Schertelshöhle
Schertelshöhle is located in the extreme northwest of the Alb-Donau-Kreis on the Laichinger Alb in Westerheim. Inside, a multitude of stalactite formations are seen on a total length of 212 meters. Scientists estimate the so-called Palace of Stones to be about 3 to 4 million years old.

Die Schertelshöhle liegt im äußersten Nordwesten des Alb-Donau-Kreises auf der Laichinger Alb bei Westerheim. Im Inneren sind eine Vielzahl an Tropfsteinformationen auf einer Gesamtlänge von 212 Metern zu sehen. Wissenschaftler schätzen den sogenannten Palast der Steine auf ca. 3 bis 4 Millionen Jahre.

Sontheimer Höhle
The Sontheimer cave at the edge of Tiefental, south of Heraldstatt, is the oldest show cave in Germany. The former river cave is estimated to be about 12 to 15 million years old. Sontheimer Höhle is also the most significant bat roost of the Swabian Alb.
Sontheimer Höhle
Die Sontheimer Höhle am Rand des Tiefentals, südlich von Heroldstatt, ist die älteste Schauhöhle Deutschlands. Die ehemalige Flusshöhle wird auf ca. 12 bis 15 Millionen Jahre geschätzt. Sie ist zudem das bedeutendste Fledermausquartier der Schwäbischen Alb.
Hohle Fels
With 500 m2 of surface area in the Ach Valley near Schelklingen, Hohle Fels is one of the largest indoor caves of the Swabian Alb. A historically and archeologically important site, the most significant finds from the cave are the Venus of Hohle Fels and the Geierflöte (vulture-bone flute). Both are around 42,500 years old and are respectively the oldest known figurative representation of a human being and the oldest known musical instrument of the world.

Mit 500 qm Grundfläche ist der Hohle Fels im Achtal nahe Schelklingen eine der größten Hallenhöhlen der Schwäbischen Alb. Sie gilt als historisch und archäologisch bedeutender Standort, die wichtigsten Entdeckungen in der Höhle sind die Venus vom Hohle Fels und die Geierflöte. Beide sind ca. 42.500 Jahre alt und damit die älteste plastische Menschendarstellung und das älteste Musikinstrument der Welt.
